STAR TREK: “PHASE II OR MOTION PICTURE CONCEPT PAINTINGS”

Record summary

A lot of concept paintings on heavy duty paper board believed to have been created for Star Trek I: The Motion Picture or Star Trek: Phase II. The items depict interior ship corridors and or doors and signage for various departments. The paintings generally show a wall with a colored bar at what would be waist high on a constructed set breaking where a door begins. The doors are typically of the slide-into-the-wall variety and painted red, the signage for them is seen to depict the occupant or department. Those identifiers are: two doors reading ‘J.T. Kirk’, one ‘Engineering’ with an atomic graphic, another with only the atomic graphic, one door with two white Starfleet emblems, one reading ‘Air Lock 2’, one reading ‘Recreation Room 4’, one with a graphic of a person relaxing on a lounge and ‘4’, one reading ‘Medical Dept.’ with a white cadesus, and another with only a cadesus graphic. Several of the paintings also feature a clear plastic sheet lying atop them with metallic silver accents to create the aspect of another possible appearance. All of the boards measure approx. 20 X 15 inches. Truly, pop art if ever there was any.
