STAR TREK: ENT “LINGUAL STUDENT LAPTOP” FROM “BROKEN BOW”

Record summary

A unique prop featured in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode “Broken Bow” for use by student characters at the Brazilian language institute during a scene involving a class taught by “Hoshi Sato” (Linda Park). The item is an injection molded plastic laptop computer altered for screen use. The item, in reality, is a teaching tool with remaining electronic capabilities. Four AA sized 1.5volt batteries will power the item, press the ‘DEMO’ key and hear the item for its original intended use. As a Star Trek prop, the item has been altered to include a graphical application on the ‘display screen’ that includes graphics of a ‘script entry’, ‘Exo Language Skills’, ‘Translator’, and ‘Notes’, all with odd alien pronunciation spelled out in block letter English. The ‘screen’ has a ‘Windows Operating System’ style appearance with 22nd century Starfleet modifications and one of the windows depicts a class schedule including a lecture time for ‘Prof Hoshi 0900’. The item is also adorned with a rubber faux button, the screen pivots on hinges and locks into place, the keyboard, and other buttons actually depress, and the bottom features rubber no-slide feet. The item measures approx. 10.5 X 9.75 X 1.25 inches.
